Game of Thrones costume ideas for Halloween

I know that in my last post I commanded you to go all zombie-style this Halloween, but, since I have a soft spot on Game of Thrones,  I will also allow you to dress as a GOT character  (and all the better if you can find some dragons to go along with your costume.)

Over the last few years, Dothrakis have been a real hit. Let’s see if this year the Lannisters or what’s left of the Starks will get their revenge! I mean, if you have some scruffy black hair, simply borrow your nan’s fur coat , some of her jewelry and you’re a Jon Snow!

Check out those other great looks.

Make sure, though, that you don’t miss any detail. We don’t want you being mistaken for a Harry Potter character!!  Take a close look at each actor’s clothes in this guide.

And if you have time, here is a tutorial for a Daenerys dress. It’s so stylish I’m sure you can wear it all year round.

Have fun!

Get ready for the Zombie apocalypse

This year for Halloween, forget the vampire, skeletons and other witch attire.

If you want to be trendy, you have no other choice than to dress up as a zombie. In fact you should totally embrace the zombie “culture”.

Follow our guide to become a zombie expert.

1. Know your zombies

Do not come out of your house until you’ve watched all of these!

The walking dead (make some time in your schedule, you have 4 seasons to catch up on)

In the flesh, a very good british series. Because the british make excellent shows. More on that in a later post.

Movies: These are classics, and not only bloody, but sometimes hilarious as well.

28 days later

Shaun of the dead

Dawn of the dead (both original and the remake)

World War Z (the latest in the genre, some purists might argue this movie is nowhere near as good as the above ones , but it stars Brad Pitt. End of the argument)

** All these movies can be downloaded legally and for free from the streaming website Viooz  and our free VSO Downloader  **

There are some great zombie books out there. You know, the thing that has pages with words written inside? Yes, a book. Grab one before they’re only sold at antique shops

Our selection:

Pride and prejudice and zombies: How to make Jane Austen more appealing, to, hum, everybody…

The Zombie Survival guide: a “must have” by zombie master max Brooks

The reapers are the angels: a great tale of zombie apocalypse

2. Don’t disappoint for Halloween:

(Some) zombies still need to eat! Be inspired with this great selection of Undead party food.

To make sure you don’t make sure you don’t make a fashion “faux pas”, here’s how to make a great zombie make-up with chewing gum!

3. Don’t stop there!

Why stop at Halloween now that you’ve done all this training and become a zombie expert?

Why not apply to the upcoming british reality TV show “I survived a zombie apocalypse” where 8 contestants will be locked into a shopping mall only populated by zombies?

You also sign up for a zombie survival course first.

Also make sure you have a zombie shelter in your garden! They don’t come cheap but they do have a 10-year warranty…

We are gathered here my friends, in order to celebrate the most amazing  day EVER: Wednesday, October, 22nd!  (drumrolls)

I give you:

No I’m not kidding, this really exists: It’s a whole day dedicated to writing in CAPITALIZED LETTERS, which drives most people crazy (so, for people over 60, it’s just a normal day)

In fact it’s so awesome that it’s celebrated not once, but twice every year!!! (next one is on June 28th, write it down in your diary)

So get ready: you have 24 hours of heaven with the perfect excuse to shout at anyone you like (or don’t like, for that matter) using caps lock! YAY!

Say goodbye to your day’s productivity!

Whether, you’re bored, in procrastinate mood or like me, sick with a big cold , (or simply, because it’s Friday), I have the answer to brighten up your day!

Warning: If you have an urgent assignment to do/ have to go pick up the kids from school or have a pizza cooking in the oven, don’t read further. We decline all responsability!

  Live zoo webcams

I don’t understand why live zoo webcams are not compulsory at every workplace.. They are the answer to EVERYTHING!

Just had an argument with a coworker ? Go check on the meerkats at London Zoo to cool down.

The vending machine stole your money ? The otters will make you forget all about it.

Need inspiration for that report  you are presenting in 15 mins ? Go focus on the elephant’s antics at the National Zoo!

The San Diego Zoo also has a koala and a panda cam! How awesome is that?

This app is as awesome as it is addictive. If you are a traveler at heart, or just curious, or just lucky, give Geoguessr a try! (I didn’t say “one” try, because that’s just impossible).

The concept is simple: a StreetView image opens and the challenge is to figure out where you are in the world.

At VSO Software we use Geoguessr to arbitrate any argument or issue.  If we want a pay rise, we challenge the boss to a game of Geoguessr!! (Well not really but this is definitely something we should consider…)

Why are there still wars in the world, when we have Procatinator ??? I mean: a great song coupled with a picture of a cat.  Or another one. Or another one …?????

Chickens on a raft

And last , but not least, an awesome breed between the most stupid and brilliant idea ever. Cannot believe a human brain invented this website and was NOT rewarded by a nobel prize!

Now go and do some work!

Don’t miss these movies!

Movie fans are in for a treat with the release of some highly anticipated movies in the coming weeks!

Check out what we’re getting excited for:

1.  Birdman (October, 17)

The movie stars Michael Keaton as a washed-up actor who once played an iconic super hero who tries to regain his past glory- by putting together a broadway play. The word on the street is that Keaton’s getting an oscar nod for this role. It’s directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarittu, the guy behind “Babel” and “21 Grams”, so I don’t advise you to go watch the movie, I command you to.

2. St Vincent (October 24)

Even though the plot is all but new (an old, grumpy guy makes friend with the boy that just moved in next door… this sounds like “About a boy” or even “Gran Torino”), it stars Bill Murray, Melissa Mc Carthy and Naomi Watts. Bill Murray, yes, you read correctly.  So far there’s a lot of hype around the film with talk about it being Murray’s greatest role.  Go buy your ticket now. Did I mention it stars Bill Murray?

3. Interstellar :

There will be no escaping this blockbuster by Christopher Nolan on November 7. The movie has been dubbed a breed between “Cli-fi” (new  term for “climate change fiction” and “Sci-fi”). The storyline remains a little unclear on purpose to highten anticipation and mystery: “a group of explorers make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage”. With Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hatthaway as main actors, it sounds like we will have no choice but to watch it.

4. Exodus (release date: Dec,12):                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Put together a biblical story directed by Ridley Scott with John Turturro Aaron Paul (yes, that’s Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad), Christian Bale, Sigourney Weaver, throw in some nice gladiators in skirts + some great special effects and you should get your Christmas movie. The story follows the defiant leader Moses as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses. Scott claims that the movie will be “f**cking huge” in its scope, which isn’t hard to believe when you watch the trailer.

It’s been a while since we’ve had such great movies to look forward to! Which ones top your list?

(The release dates indicated are for the US)
